The Brazilian Campaign for the Right to Education will be in mission in Angola, starting on February 26, continuing the series of visits that began in October 2011 to Lusophone African countries. In Angola, the EFA Angolan Network (Angolan Civil Society Network for Education for All ) is the organization engaged in the program and is hosting the mission.
The visit is part of South-South Cooperation Program with Lusophone Countries (SSCP-Lusophone), a Brazilian Campaign´s initiative, in partnership with Open Society Foundation (OSF). This project is focused at strengthening education civil society organizations in their advocacy work, promoting more effective political changes and enshrining the Right to Education in the participating countries (Angola, Cape Verde, Guinea-Bissau, Mozambique and Sao Tomé & Príncipe).
As part of the mission, a series of meetings will be held with several organizations in the education sector: Ministry of Education, Parliament, International Cooperation Agencies from different countries, social organizations, schools and one university. On Monday, February 27th, the Delegation will be meeting with the Brazilian Embassy in Luanda and with the Minister of Education Pinda Simao. On second day, February 28th, more than the thirty organizations from around the country will be meeting to talk about the educational challenges. On Wednesday February 29, happens meeting with members of the 6th Parliamentary Committee for education and also with Unesco´s Commission.
Media Conferences – On the last day, February 2nd will be held a media conference with Angolan media, at Open Society Angola (OSISA-Angola) offices, in order to share an analysis of the mission, its results and future perspectives.
Who composes the mission – In Angola, the Brazilian Campaign for the Right to Education is represented by Margarida Maria Marques, leader of The Brazilian Campaign for the Right to Education and also by Daniel Cara, general coordinator of the Brazilian Campaign and its executive coordinator , Iracema Nascimento.
Margarida Marques is coordinator of the Center for the Defense of Children’s Rights at the state of Ceará, Brazil. Daniel Cara has a Master degree in Political Science. Iracema Nascimento has a Master degree in Communication Science.
